Showing Lionhead Rabbits

1) Find a Show in your area buy going to the ARBA Website.  I learned the hard way that the address posted is NOT the address to the show. But hey you can pet the secretaries cat while there if you make the same mistake I did.

2) E-mail the Judge Secretary. In order to Show Lionheads currently (until the breed passes a presentation) you MUST ask the Show secretary if they are going to allow Lionheads and in what colors. Showing is COMPLETELY up to them. After that you will need to bring a current working standard. Things DO change after the breed has passed one presentation though. AT that time shows MUST allow colors that have passed presentation. If you have an AOV color or a COD color from another person's Certificate you will still have to ask what the show is allowing. After the breed has passed it will be no different the showing any other breed. Remember until lionheads are passed we DO NOT get to go up for Best In Show. But we CAN go for Best of breed. Legs are NOT given to unrecognized breeds. You may also want to ask where the show is located and if it is a day of show entry or a pre-entry show.

3) There are two kinds of Entries for Shows: Day of Show entry and Pre-entry

Day Of Show Entry means you can just show up and write out your cards the day of. Make sure you arrive early. These are my favorites as you can pick who goes the morning of.

Pre- Show entries you will have to send in BEFORE you show. These are normally National shows and those big Californian shows :). These your can normally pay ahead of time or at the show.

4) There are two Types of Housing for Shows:

Coop: For these housing will be provided for you. Though with Lionheads you may want to have Risers Just in case they provided cages with solid bottoms. You can buy them here or make them yourself. Ask ahead of time what size you will need. These shows are normally fairs and Nationals shows where rabbits may need to be there for long periods of time.

Carrier: These you will need to buy rabbit carriers to take them in. I buy mine from Woody's Wabbits . These are normally show 1 day shows.

5) Make sure you bring water from home as Rabbits are more likely to drink from something familiar. Oh and before I forget you do not need a pedigree to show. Only to register for a championship on a recognized breed. After that all you have to do is wait for your breed to be called and put them in the show coop! Have fun and good luck!
